We Are Not All The Same, Let's Be Kind

Many of you may be struggling with isolation and boredom.  And some of you, like me, were already accustomed to those things.  Let’s sit down and  talk about it.

I have been losing my ability to stand or walk for long periods of time for a while now.    As a result I have been having to find ways to live and do things from home.  I’ll be honest with you.  It’s an ongoing process.  And I still have a lot to learn.  And even when you do know what to do, putting that thing into action takes more than a little effort.

Especially if other people are hounding us to only do things one way.

Each and every one of us is different.   We have different needs, different values, different set backs.  And we need to be nice to each other about those differences.

Especially during hard times.  Depending on our health, our mental health, and our job situations.  We are not all going to handle a pandemic exactly the same way.  And especially based on job and living situation we may not be able to handle a pandemic as well as we’d hope.

We need to go easy on each other and easy on ourselves.

But let’s narrow our scope a little more.  Let’s put aside the pandemic for a moment and talk about getting stuff done and living our lives in … better times.

A lot of people will try to tell you how to live your life and how to do things.  But more than that, some people will tell you that you should be able to do things the way they do them.   Even if the way they do it is not practical for you or even unsafe for you.

It especially comes into play when dealing with a disability or mental illness.  Sometimes even with people who have similar diagnoses, but have different symptoms.

We are all a little different and if we find what works for us we shouldn’t be discouraged from doing that, because that thing doesn’t work for another person or that some people can’t understand how it works.

We need to listen to our bodies and our minds.  And we need to let others listen to theirs.

Some of us are going to need more rest.  Some of us might prefer to bury ourselves in work.  Some of us won’t be able to do some of the things we could do before.  Let’s all try to be kind and listen.  Listen to ourselves.  Be kind to ourselves.  Listen to others.  Be kind to others.  And let others do the same.
