Things I Love Thursday: Orange Roses

Things I Love Thursday

Well the weather has turned super soggy this morning.  I can hear the rain coming down in a beautiful sound I sleep so well to.  Do you like the sound of rain?  Looks like my fashion today is going to involve a polka dot umbrella.  I love my umbrella.  Here are some other things I love.

Writing Exercise: In The Spirit of Completing Things

Camp NaNoWriMo

I must admit I am intimidated by my goal to finish the full second draft of my current novel by the end of summer.  Part of this is because it is not just a matter of editing.  I am rewriting the entire thing.  The plot has changed significantly from the first draft and for the better I believe.  I spent most of the first draft exploring ideas and characters and the world.  There are still a few ideas that I don't have fully worked out yet.  But I am going to have to tackle them full force. Sitting around being too intimidated to start is not going to help me with that any.

Lolita 52 Challenge: Vol. 3 - My Wardrobe Turnover

My wardrobe turnover?  I have to admit that my wardrobe does not see much turnover.  There are some shirts I have had for more than a decade.  And they still look awesome!  Though let us focus more on my lolita wardrobe.  I actually still have the first lolita dress I got back in 2005.  That was some time ago.  I don't wear it anymore, I really just can't bear to part with it.    Several of the items that have been turned over in my closet have been items that just didn't fit.  Whether it was for size or style.  A pair of ankle boots I put on layaway last year were worn for a total of two hours.  They fit like mules and I was in pain after those two hours.  I like my shoes to fit very close to my foot and in boots I like good ankle support.  I actually gave them to a friend within a few days and she loves them.  One of the skirts I wore in my early days of lolita I donated within a few months because it was just too short.

Tomorrow is the summer solstice!  The longest day of the year.  It is also the fourth season in a row that I will attempt this seasonal goals challenge.  It has been a lot of fun.  I have tried new things and been creative.  I have moved forward with goals.  I hope that my achievements and new experiences through this challenge will get bigger and better over time as I continue to learn and build more experience.  If you'd like to create a list of your own check out the guidelines I used to build my list here.

Things I Love Thursday: Fly a kite!

Blue angels kite

It has been a tasty and fun week.  I have played a good bit of Minecraft.  Done quite a bit of riding on my bike.  Though it is starting to get hot out.  My lovely rides may soon only be in the mornings and late evenings.  Summer will be here soon and I have checked off several of my spring goals off.  I don't think I will see a movie before summer starts, but I am hoping to see Maleficent this month.  But enough of my rambling.  Here is what I loved this week!

Lolita 52 Challenge: Vol. 2 - The Item In My Wardrobe That Was The Hardest To Get

I have been really lucky with my wardrobe.  This is greatly due to the fact that I am a thrifter.  Several of my pieces are second hand.  In fact I gather most of them are.  And the new pieces that I have sought have been easy enough to get.  You may be surprised to hear that the item in my wardrobe that was the hardest to get was my black beret.

Tea Time Tuesday: Cookies Galor

My trusty stovetop with our tea steeping

+Jenn and I got together for the first time in awhile last Thursday for some fun and baking.  We tried out a tea, baked cookies, and just generally had a great time.  We also tested out my new cookie press.  So today I would like to talk about my new OXO Good Grips Cookie Press, Twinings Ultra Spice Chai, my go to for spritz cookie recipes, and just plain being a geek.  Let's get started!

Writing Exercise: Interview

Last Monday I was eating out with a fellow writer friend and we touched on the subject of writing at least a few times.  We talked about how we learned about our characters.  We talked about how we would try talking to the characters and feel like we had to swear we were not crazy.  If you also write you may be familiar with this, but you are in good company.  What better way to make your characters feel real than to start out by treating them like they are real.  Talking to them as though they are their own person.  While this isn't my only method for generating and fleshing out characters it is very useful.  For today's writing exercise lets try our hands at something like this.

Lolita 52 Challenge: Vol. 1 - Purses that I love

International Lolita Day

As a lifestyle lolita I have wanted to do more lolita posts here on my blog.  And today is International Lolita Day.  This is a fabulous holiday that happens twice a year.  It is an excuse to get all dolled up and go out.  Not that we actually need a reason.  It is also a great opportunity to get together with other lolitas.  It happens on the first Saturday of both June and December.

Anyway back to the point.  I would like to do more lolita posts so I am going to try my hand at the Lolita 52 Challenge created by Caro-chan over at F Yeah Lolita.  I will try to do one of the prompts each week starting today.  There are several ways I could pick a prompt.  I could go through from 1 to 52 in order or I could put all the prompts in a container and pull out one at random each week.  I could also use my gaming dice.  But today I decided to just pull up a random number generator off the internet and have it tell me what to write.

Random.org told me to do number 27.  Number 27 is "Purses that I love."    Well let's see how this goes.
