Howdy there everyone.  I will be away for a little bit.  I got an offer for some short term seasonal work that involves some traveling and I don't expect to have regular access to a computer or the internet.  As such Petticoat Pedaler will be quiet until early January after I get back.  Have a fun and safe New Years Eve,  practice good judgment, and I will see you in 2017.

Things I Love Thursday: LARPing In Ohio

Light purple colored background with sand and green aquamarine dots. Text in darker purple reads Things I Love Thursday.

I got to go to another wonderful Magischola LARP.  It was exciting and fun and magical.  I got to meet more wonderful people and reconnect with others I had meet last time in the summer.  I got to play a character that I would describe as a bouncing ball  of sunshine.  I also got to express myself both as masculine and feminine without fear of repercussions.

It was a long way to get there.  And to get back.  Texas to Ohio.  A very long drive.  It was also cold.  Snow and a need for winter wear they do not sell where I live.  But getting to see snow for the first time in 12 years was a lot of fun.

Well me and my family are off to enjoy another LARP.  These LARPs are really fun and exciting.  If you enjoy table top role-playing, definitely consider trying LARP some time.

It is Thursday so here I am with another installment of joy.

What's in My Make-Up? Skin Care Regimen

Bright purple text reading "What's in my make-up" over an image of assorted make-up and a black textured case with metal lining.

So I saw some videos that gave information about The United States and make up.  Maybe you have seen the videos too.  If you haven’t here is one of them.

Light purple colored background with sand and green aquamarine dots. Text in darker purple reads Things I Love Thursday.

I got to see Moana this week with friends.   It was wonderful.  I'd like to see it again sometime.  It was beautiful and such a beautiful story.  I cried a little.

The Language of Flowers

A narrow clear glass vase with pink carnations in front of the wooden seat planks of a bench.

When I was a kid there was a book in the house that had a section on the language of flowers used in the Victorian period.  I thought it was really cool.  It wasn’t just things like “I love you.”  One of the meanings I remember, though I have long since forgotten the flower that went with it, was, “Your attentions are undesired.”  Who doesn’t want to be able to sass people like that?

When I became an adult I wanted very much to find a source like that one.  Now it is really easy to find meanings to flowers on the internet, but when I first started looking most of the ones I saw were purely positive.  That isn’t a bad thing.  But I wanted the full range.  After several years I finally found a book.

Mrs. L. Burke, editor. The language of flowers. Hugh Evelyn, 1963.

Here are some of the entertaining examples of what The Language of Flowers has to offer.

Things I Love Thursday: Happy Even with Depression

Light purple colored background with sand and green aquamarine dots. Text in darker purple reads Things I Love Thursday.

It has been an interesting week.  I have done some good work and good stuff.  But I have depression so some times it is hard just to human and this was one of those weeks.  I am hoping some routines will help with that issue.  For now one to some of my happy thoughts.

Things I Love Thursday: Getting Back on Gratitude

Light purple colored background with sand and green aquamarine dots. Text in darker purple reads Things I Love Thursday.

It has been a little rough lately and I skipped my gratitude list last week.  I just really couldn't get in the mood for it.  That happens.  To all of us.  We all have rough spots emotionally, physically, spiritually, mentally.  And sometimes several different kinds all at once.  We can't kick ourselves for that.  It is important that we try to be supportive of our own health.   And that can be difficult.  One of the things I do for my own emotional health is gratitude lists.  So I am here on Thursday again to bring you a glimpse of some of the things that have made me happy this week and to remind myself that there is a lot of good things even when I am having trouble not just seeing the negative.

Tea Time Tuesday: Cranberry Lemon Scones

This week for our tea time baking we decided to try out this scone recipe from Tea Time Magazine.  Raisin-Orange Scones.  Neither of us particularly like the idea of using raisins though and agreed that dried cranberries would taste better.  At least to us.   And with that we each went to work baking these scones for the first time and tasting them with teas of our choice.  See how +Jenn did over on her blog, Just Plum Petite.  Tea Time Tuesday Cranberry Orange Scones

Tea Time Tuesday: Pumpkin Loaf

Words read, "tea Time Tuesday. Pumpkin Bread" in orange and bright purple over an image of a loaf of pumpkin bread in a glass bread pan. Two colorful oven mits lay on the stove top beside it.

Both me and +Jenn have been missing our old Tea Time Tuesday adventures.  We would hang out every week, usually on a Tuesday hence the name, and have tea and try out new things.  We live in different cities now and it isn’t so easy to hang out on a regular basis.  It’s a long way to go on a bicycle.  :p   As such we have decided to try Tea Time Tuesday from a distance.  This week we both tried out a new recipe.   Starbucks Pumpkin Bread.

Things I Love Thursday: Writing

November has started and with it the great challenge of NaNoWriMo.  I love this challenge.  I love the community of it.  And several friends are doing the challenge this year too.  WEEE!!! So much fun!  Here are a few other things that have been bringing me joy this past week.

November Goals 2016

November is here and with it my goals for the month.  This month I am going to probably try doing a lot of things in addition to these goals.  These will be my top three priorities though.

October 31, 2016

October Favorites 2016

And there goes October!  Today is Halloween so be sure to have fun and be safe.  If you are doing NaNoWriMo and will start typing at the stroke of midnight I wish you the best of speed and luck.  May your muse not get drunk this month.  I am not sure what outfit I will be wearing tonight.  We had a costumes and games party this past Friday.  Game nights are the best.  I wore my Ren Faire outfit and the flower crown from my Magischola trip.  Something with a Ren faire feel would be good inspiration for my writing tonight though.

I am not here to talk about NaNoWriMo and costumes right now though.  Today is about the things I loved this month.  So I guess I am sort of here to talk about costumes.  lol

Being an Aromantic Asexual in a Hypersexual World

A horizontally striped background. Colors are, from top to bottom, Black, grey, white, and purple. Purple text over the black strip reads, "Asexual Awareness Week." Black text over the bottom purple stripe reads, "2016." The center two stripes have the four suit shapes from a deck of cards in black. From the left, diamond, spade, club, and heart.

I am an aromantic asexual.  Which means I do not experience romantic or sexual attraction.  I live in a society that reinforces heteronormativity and is hypersexual.  This can make some things awkward.  At best.

There are a lot of things I notice.  There are a lot of things I have to deal with, that a heterosexual cisgendered person might not notice.  So today I am going to take some time to talk about some of them.

Things I Love Thursday: Fox Alignment

We had friends over last night.  It was a lot of fun.  Young Frankenstein, chicken tikka masala, bubbles, and talking about the upcoming ren faire.

Asexual Spectrum Characters

A horizontally striped background. Colors are, from top to bottom, Black, grey, white, and purple. Purple text over the black strip reads, "Asexual Awareness Week." Black text over the bottom purple stripe reads, "2016." The center two stripes have the four suit shapes from a deck of cards in black. From the left, diamond, spade, club, and heart.

I wanted to take a look at some asexual spectrum characters today.

As I looked for characters in media I was reminded of the stereotypes and misconceptions that asexuals are aliens, robots, or serial killers.  That is not a pleasant stereotype.  Not that there are many pleasant stereotypes.  If any.

So here are a few characters that are either speculated to be or are officially on the asexual spectrum.  Note that this list is not exhaustive.  In fact I’ll leave you some links to other lists and articles.

Asexual Links

Black text over the bottom purple stripe reads, "2016." The center two stripes have the four suit shapes from a deck of cards in black. From the left, diamond, spade, club, and heart.

There are plenty of blogs and forums out there to find work by asexuals.  Today I will be sharing with you some lovely links for you to explore.

What is Asexual?

A horizontally striped background. Colors are, from top to bottom, Black, grey, white, and purple. Purple text over the black strip reads, "Asexual Awareness Week." Black text over the bottom purple stripe reads, "2016." The center two stripes have the four suit shapes from a deck of cards in black. From the left, diamond, spade, club, and heart.

Hey there! Today marks the first day of Asexual Awareness Week.  This week I want to take out time to talk about and raise awareness about this sexual orientation.  If you didn't know I am asexual.  To be more specific I am an aromantic asexual who is gender-fluid.  But those are more details for another time.  Today I want to tackle the question of what asexuality is.

Learn a New Language for Free

Photo of a stack of language books and dictionaries. A brass vase to one side and a Paris themed pencil holder to the other.

Do you want to learn a new language?  Classes and programs can cost quite a bit.  And even if they are not terribly expensive, a lot of people simply do not have the income to afford these options.

But don’t despair.  There are plenty of places to learn a language on a dime or for nothing at all as long as you have access to the internet.  Now there are also ways to learn without the internet, but that is a different post altogether.

Today let's look through some of your options for learning at home.

Things I Love Thursday: New Kitten

Light purple colored background with sand and green aquamarine dots. Text in darker purple reads Things I Love Thursday.

So one of my housemates brought home the cutest kitten.  He jumped into her car and wouldn't come out until she got home.  He is the sweetest and calmest little thing.  She came in with him during a gaming night when we were playing a game of Betrayal at House on the Hill.  Everything stopped for the kitten and there were ohs and aws and a line to pat him or hold him.  He has been to the vet and he is hanging out in her room until we know he and the other animals will get along.

Ada Lovelace Day and Women in Science, Math, & Technology

Howdy!  Today is Ada Lovelace Day.  Ada Lovelace was the first computer programmer.  Not the first female computer programmer.  She was the FIRST computer programmer.  Read more about here here.

There are plenty of amazing women in history.  A lot of them do not get talked about.  They are ignored by history.  Or they don't get credit for their own work.  Since today is Ada Lovelace Day I figured I'd mention some of these women.

Hedy Lamarr.  I learned about her  a few years ago.  She was an inventor and actress.  I remember mention of her being a mathematician too.  But I'll have to read up on her again.

I asked one of my friends if she knew of any women in science, math, or technolorgy and she suggested Marie M. Daly, Ph.D.  "She was the first Black American woman in the United States to earn a Ph.D. in chemistry."  Read more on her Wikipedia page.

This article was also suggested by my friend.  9 Black Women Game Changers in STEM

If you pop over to the NASA website You can find information on women in those fields.  They even have information about Women in Space.  They have a tone of stories on their blog about  Women@NASA.

And here is a twitter list you can follow to find more women who are involved in fields in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math.  Women in SciTechArts.

Do you know of any women in STEM fields?  Tell me about them.

Goals of Autumn and Three Years of Blogging

Text reads "What are your autumn goals." Background is of fall leaves scattered on the grass. A foggy translucent box frames the words and obscures some of the leaves.

Last month brought us the first day of Autumn and the 3rd anniversary of my blog.  Three years, can you believe it?  I'd love to keep going.  I want to take my blog, my work, and my life to the next level.

Back in May I sat down with a pen and a legal pad.  I asked the question "Where do I want to be in 5 years?"  I wrote down my answers.  I have been trying to use those answers as a guide post in my goals since then.  I want to make sure that my short term goals work toward that future.  It has helped me to feel more focused.

While I do not feel comfortable sharing all my answers to my five year question I can tell you that a good portion of them have to do with my writing and my education.

Things I Love Thursday: Friends, Conventions, & Talking Shop

Light purple colored background with sand and green aquamarine dots. Text in darker purple reads Things I Love Thursday.

I spent the weekend at Realmscon this weekend.  it was a lot of fun.  I didn't go to many panels.  I helped a friend out by volunteering some of my time and I talked shop with several artists.  I have new tricks to try for resign and for steampunk.  I am now aware of better items to use for my steampunk character.  Training daggers.  that should be fun to steampunk.

Things I Love Thursday: Singing Along To a Ukulele

A collection of items arranged as a collage on a small wooden table. Words written on cut out white paper reads: Things I Love Thursday. Assorted items in collage include: A mint and white teacup and saucer filled with crystal stones, a quartz pendulum, and a plastic macaroon. A walnut, two (2) red hearts, a snail wearing a black beret, two (2) strands of stone beads (purple fluorite and green aventurine), a bottle of purple nail polish, a pink rose, a silver colored seven pointed star candle holder, a small tan tea pot, a note pad in summery colors with the image of a popsicle on it, and a decorative pen.

Last night was fabulous.  We had friends over for the family night of of our multi-faith study group.  There was food.  There was tea and Turkish coffee.  There were singing bowls.  There was a ukulele.  We even sang an alcohol alphabet song.  It was all wonderful and pleasant.

This week has been filled with events and busyness.  I have been prepping for events and cleaning.  and then other times I have been cracking at crafting and writing.  This weekend is a convention and I am doing some prep for that.  I will be going as my steam punk character Zazzle at least two days.  I am looking forward to that.

A Simple Sunday

Antique illustration of a young woman with brown hair in an up-do wearing a teal Edwardian period dress. She is holding a paper parasol and a bundle of flowers while laying in a hammock with an over-sized pillow.
Image from Antique Images

Hello there.  I figured I'd just drop in and say hi.  Yesterday was a busy day at home.  We had friends over for a day of gaming and sushi.  Sushi was delicious.  Games were fun.  There were two big loses though.  Pandemic Legacy and Betrayal at House on The Hill.  For those who have played Pandemic, we pulled an epidemic card on the first turn and a second on in that first round.  We even had a chain reaction outbreak in that first round.  It was pretty terrifying.  As for Betrayal at House on The Hill, the trader won.

Today I am taking things slow.  I am cleaning.  We used a lot of dishes yesterday.  I am reading.  It is nice to sit down and read.  I often forget how relaxing that is.  Though I do live with a toddler and I need some quiet when I am reading.  I also plan on updating my date book today and planning out the week to come.

At the moment I have a cup of tea and a kitty that wants in my lap.  How is your Sunday going?

Good morning.  Today is the first day of Autumn this year.  Or spring if you are in the southern hemisphere.  What are you looking forward to?  I love Autumn and all the decor that goes with it.  I love the pumpkin flavorings, the spice, the cider.

Things I Love Thursday: Try a Gratitude List

Gratitude list have made a big difference in my disposition.  Depression is something I have dealt with since childhood.  Being grateful is not going to fix that, but it is one tool you can use to get better control in your life.

In my experience taking not of things that make me happy, no matter how small or how often it is the same thing, helps me to not forget that there are good things in this would. People can tell us all the time that there are good things.  But our brains have a tendency to remember all the negative and forget the good.  The negativity and the bad stuff is almost like a fog that tries to conceal the good and the happy.

By actively taking time to remember the good things we are building a habit that can help us cut through that dismal fog like a hot knife through butter.

One of the things I love is reading.  But it takes me a lot longer to read than other people.  I often have to read a sentence five times over just to decipher what it actually says.  I have dyslexia and because of this I have always needed a lot of time to read.  When I originally started this post I went through the books i have and the ones I am in the middle of reading and came up with a list of five books I would love to finish reading this year.

Lessons In Baking: Read the Comments

Okay folks.  Story time with pictures.

So my friend spotted a muffin recipe on Facebook and thought I'd like it.  The ingredients sounded tasty.  Bananas, quick oats, wheat flour, honey.  mmmm

The annoying part is that we kept being short one ingredient or another when I was hoping to make them. So I finally got to make them this morning.  Here is what they looked like going into the oven.

Batter in an orange silicone muffin pan ready to go into the oven.

Things I Love Thursday: Being Productive

A collection of items arranged as a collage on a small wooden table. Words written on cut out white paper reads: Things I Love Thursday. Assorted items in collage include: A mint and white teacup and saucer filled with crystal stones, a quartz pendulum, and a plastic macaroon.     Howdy and welcome to Thursday!  This week seems to be much better than last.  I have had fun this week and I feel productive.  I have created things with clay and started studying again.  I hope your week is going well.

Now on to the round up of things that made me happy or smile this week.  Here goes.

September Goals & Try-Its

A simple blue triangle with a purple outline. In purple the words, "Goals and try its" is written over the triangle.
Due to traveling and other factors I didn't really set goals last month.  I feel like I wasn't as focused as I'd like to have been.  Clear goals may have helped me to keep on track.  But that is okay.  I have goals for September.  A basket of frogs that need eating.

August Favorites 2016

A close shot of several items on my dresser. The picture is centered on a crocheted mandrake sprouting plushie sitting inside of a teacup filled with gold colored mardi gra beads. To left side of the tea cup is a leather bracer with a tiefling girl painted onto it and another teacup. To the right and in the background is a woodensign that says, "Dreams n. a cherished hope; ambition; aspiration." Though the word Dream is only partly in the frame. There are also two origami animals on the surface of the dresser.

So August is coming to a close today. This means it's time to round up all of my favorites from the month.  And I feel like there is a lot to list.

It has been an interesting week.  I finally got my diagnosis from the testing.  Maybe I will talk about that later in the week.  I have also gotten to play D&D.  All the players are playing some kind of magical creature.  That has been fun.  Here is this weeks happy list.

A Single White Evening Primrose

One of my favorite things to look at in nature when I was a teen-ager was is a single white evening primrose growing alongside a group of pink evening primroses. I did not often see the white evening primrose I usually only saw the pink, but seeing that single white evening primrose made me think of a lot of things.

Things I Love Thursday: My Bicycle Is Back

I am so happy to have my bike back in working order.  It has been at least two months.  The back wheel went flat and then my glasses broke.  The glasses had to be fixed before the bike, because I am just not street legal without them.  And then we were going out of town and the heat.  But oh how I missed my dear sweet Soña. (that's my bike's name)  And riding her yesterday for the first time in forever was like flying.  IT was exhilarating.  It filled me with a bubbling warm laughter.

So without further ado, here is my gratitude list for the week.

Things I Love Thursday: Busy, Busy, Relax

A collection of items arranged as a collage on a small wooden table. Words written on cut out white paper reads: Things I Love Thursday. Assorted items in collage include: A mint and white teacup and saucer filled with crystal stones, a quartz pendulum, and a plastic macaroon.     It has been busy.  I have had a few times here and there to rest, but I still feel like it has been nearly constant.  First the trip to Virginia.  That including three days in a car both ways and then a sweltering climate not unlike that in the part of Texas I live in with plenty of physical activity.  Then GISHWHES.  That is always a bit insane.  I tried to take it easy, but it was still a lot. Then a trip to visit another frind.  So now I am taking some time just to stay home and play Eve Online and tidy up.

My desk is nice and clean.  I have a few small stacks of papers to go through and deal with.  I have had Eve Online for a few days now and am looking forward to getting further and further into the content and exploration.  So here is my gratitude list for the week and probably some of the vacation and events.

The Elusive Miss Jean Louis & The Time Traveling Slangaroo

The elusive Miss Jean Louis is a mysterious creature indeed.  Her biography is a book that is difficult to obtain, but we the members of team PanzillaLovesMoogleLovesTheMentallyIllsLovesTheBorms have obtained pages from a single chapter of the curious tomb.  Here I shall share some of the tantalizing details with you.

Thought he date of the occurrence is unknown due to pages that simply weren't found and others that fell into the twisting tentacles of a hunger elopus.  We do know that in the summer of this unknown year Miss Jean Louis joined a slangaroo in an adventure to save it's pet kitten from a gang of nefarious field mice whom wished to sacrifice the kitten to the kale gods.

Through tenacity, teamwork, and the clever use of titanium sporks they were able to save the kitten.  After that they became fast friends and the trio traveled trough different parts of time for a period that can best be estimated as 16 months.

They traveled to the Cretaceous period to search for the origins of the dinomite.  They traveled to the 1500's to watch a Shakespearean play.  We were unable to discover which play they watched.  Though members of the team have decided to pick plays arbitrarily.  There is even a small section that describes their travels to the year 13063.  An exciting story of swimming lizard bears and laser light cannons was cut short by another missing page.  The next and final page gave us a description of  Miss Jean Louis sipping kale wine in her art filled living room and gave no answers to the whereabouts of the time traveling slangaroo.

Home Sweet Home

Travel, LARPing, and GISHWHES are exhausting.  Fun and exciting, but exhausting.  I am still achy and sore.  I still haven't fully relaxed, because I am a crazy person and am doing GISHWHES.  We have done some fun stuff though.  I need to rest.  I slept for 8 hours and my body is still aching for sleep that I really can't get comfortable enough to enjoy.  I am sure it will be better after GISHWHES is over.  And in the mess of GISHWHES  I am still checking things off of my August to do list I created on the drive back from Virginia.  I took care of three big ones last night.

This is more of a hello than anything as far as posts go.  So how are you all doing?  Any of you participating in GISHWHES?  Have any of you ever LARPed or role played?

Till later,

Things I Love Thursday: Sleeping In My Own Bed

We are back home.  It was amazing, but all the travel.  All the time in the car.  I was so sore.  I am now helping friends with GISHWES and trying to get back into the swing of things.  It is a lot.  So today I will give you a short list of things I enjoyed from the LARP.

Things I Love Thursday: Quick Pack All The Things

The trip is coming up quick.  One of my roommates and myself are handling the bulk of the packing today.  Along with cleaning and washing.  It has been a really busy week.  Yesterday we went into town to get some of the supplies.  We spent an hour at the rock and gem store.  I came out with a small collection of beauties.

Playing Games Is Fun

Relaxing and playing can be important.  Even when you are an adult.  I remember long months that seemed to bleed one day into the other of work, sleep, food, and work again.  I learned through experience that it was important to do more than just sleep to rest up from work and stress.

Sleep is vital and not getting enough of it can make you sick.  But if you manage to get enough sleep try to do something fun.  That is exactly what we did yesterday.  We had a game day.  Lots of friends, plenty of food, and so many games.

Things I Love Thursday: I still love the Salmon Cannon

The weekly love is great to remind me that there is still good in this world.  Depression has made the last few days troublesome and the news has a lot of terribleness in it.  As such I turn now to the salmon cannon to cheer me up.

Things I Love Thursday: Organization & Math

I like to organize things so that I can complete tasks in a manageable way and always be able to find what I need.  I am still trying out different methods.  Bullet journals worked for a little with modifications, but it still didn't do everything I needed.  Do you have any favorite methods of organizing your time and why do they work best for you?

As I do every week now is time for the gratitude list.

July Goals 2016

July Goals, handwritten on a cloudy sky.

July is going to be a short month for me.   Toward the end of the month  my roommates and I will all be traveling  to vacation in a magical world.  Or rather we will be going to participate in a LARP that is essentially college for wizards.  I’m really excited about that,  but I have so much more to do before then.   That also means that I need to stay on top of any work or goals I want to finish before then.  Otherwise time is going to eat me alive.  LOL  That would be some interesting imagery though, wouldn’t it?  So here are my goals for the month of July.

June Favorites 2016

Various colored resin gems sparkling on green stripped fabric. Text reads, "June Favorite"

Well it's the end of the month again.   That means it's time to do a roundup of all the things that I really loved this month.  Not your weekly Things I Love Thursday, but some of the things that really stood out from my month.

Things I Love Thursday: Folding Parties

I feel like I have been productive lately, aside from some low periods from my depression.  I started using a composition book to keep track of the things I have done in a day.  It has worked well to help remind me that I have been doing stuff.  I have also been enjoying the studying I started last Monday for summed.  I am about 13% of the way through the Esperanto lessons on DuoLingo.  I am looking forward to making more progress in my goals and working to fight off my depression.

Here is my list for the week.

I Am A Lifestyle Lolita & This Is Why

A floral tea pot, a non-matching tea cup with thin leaf blades and colored berries on it, and a white saucer all siting on a glass table outside. Golden brown colored tea is in the cup.

Life is art to me.  So of course fashion is an art for me too.  Lolita is one of my favorite styles of fashion, so I use that shade of paint, if you will, on other works in my life.  That is just how I live.  And I wouldn’t want it any other way.  But I know not everyone wants that for themselves so I don’t expect others to live that way or to even get it.

Things I Love Thursday: Bright Moon

I went out to observe during the full moon on Monday.  It was gloriously bright.  I could have easily walked around with no other source of light.  But even then I could still find Mars and a hand full of other stars in the sky.

Here is my list this week.

The Most Beautiful Thing

The most beautiful thing I ever saw was a concept.  Imaginary numbers used in formulas created the most spectacular patterns on graphs.

    Fractals.
For an image description I must apologize, because I am not capable of doing this image justice with words. It is a fractal with teal, green, blue, and black colors. It is a series of ever repeating patterns that look as though they are falling down into holes that they have created. The longer you look at the pattern the more patterns and holes you start to see.
This is an image of a julia set pulled from Wikipedia
A small equation would create a complex and seemingly ever repeating pattern.

It was in that moment that I was first enthralled by math.  It had been something I could do and could even enjoy, but it was that moment, when I saw the most beautiful thing I have ever seen in the world, that I found a goal to strive for.

Things I Love Thursday: A Week of Experiments

The news has been . . . mournful and frustrating.  I don't have enough energy for it all.  I have had some bad days this week with my depression and I am trying to keep my spirits up.

This is something gratitude list can really help with.  these are the times when if you are losing hope you can go to them, if you keep them, and remind yourself that there are little sparkles in the darkness.  It can help.

So here are some of my sparkles of joy.

Experimenting with Resin

I have been watching tutorials for resin and gathering the tools and supplies for a little while now.  In the was week I have finally made a couple batches of mostly little gem shapes.  It has been interesting.  I am probably a bit more precautions that most would think is necessary.  Can you say respirator?

At first I was relatively happy with the results of both batches.  The first had a couple issues that I tried to adjust for.  The second batch seemed nearly perfect.  Until I took them to the farmers' market to show my friend who works there.  They were bendy!!!!   They are not supposed to be bendy.

I have already determined three possible reasons for these results.  So I will be trying to eliminate them one at a time to see what the problem was.  There is also the fact that the heat index was over a hundred.  Welcome to south Texas.  Bring a fan and a lot of water.

But I still have some fantastic pictures of my gem creations and another batch curing as I type.  Here is the shot I shared on Instagram.  Good news is they seem far less bendy now that they are back in the AC.

Well I am off now.  I want to get some studying in.

  Tata,

Things I Love Thursday: Crafting!

I have been doing a lot of different things I was starting to feel like I hadn't done a snail in forever.  So I set aside some time to sculpt some snails out of polymer clay.  I am really happy with the results.

I also finally got to trying out the resin casting.  Though I still have to wait before releasing the little gems from the silicone mold.  It has felt productive on many fronts of my life this week and for me that always makes things more feasible.

5 Places on the Internet to Go When You Have Seen Too Much

Photo of a cat on a desk top with a crochet toy in her mouth. The photo is edited to look like a very detailed oil painting and then has stars scattered over it. There are words across the picture and they read: That is enough of this seriousness. Let's get silly.

Have you ever been watching something or reading something or listening to something and then you reached a point where you couldn’t take any more of it?  That was it!! That was too much!

Maybe you were listening to the news.
Maybe you were looking something up and forgot to use safe search.
Maybe life is just a little stressful and you need some relief from it.

Whether you want to unsee what has been burned into your eyeballs or if you just need something happy to counteract the terrible that exists in the world, today's list is for you.

Working on Myself

A simple collage on the surface of a desk. A used yellow legal pad, a composition booklet with a decorative cover that is mostly shades of purple with a floral design, four different pens (colors purple, black, and green), a pair of black plastic framed glasses, and two Eiffel tower decorations that are going off frame.

May I did a lot of self work.

One of my house mates is really enjoying looking into Myers–Briggs Types and all sorts of other topics that I can't list because well I'm not him.  Any how it has lead to great discussions of how different people think, process things, and make decisions.  It has also lead to everyone taking tests to find out their type.  I have taken several tests over the years and often come up as an INFJ, but after finding more accurate tests and looking into the actual functions of the types turns out I am an INTJ.  It has all been rather interesting.
